What it is
IEC 61162-450 is a standard for networking shipboard navigation and bridge equipment over Ethernet, commonly called Lightweight Ethernet or LWE.
How it works
It uses multicast UDP over standard Ethernet so bridge systems can share data at far higher rates than legacy serial links.
Where it fits
It is found in integrated bridge systems and complements NMEA where higher bandwidth between systems is needed.
